Why Birds are Cool
Hello there! As a zoosexual, who is living with 3 parrots and 1 pigeon and is mainly attracted to birds, I have been met with some degree of misunderstanding or condescension in the community. Many zoosexuals don't seem to believe that it is possible to be attracted to these feathered, bug-eyed creatures and prefer them to fluffy cute dogs. It could be that they just don't understand enough about birds. And so today I say that we should talk about birds' advantages and why they are more attractive than you are probably thinking, and why most zoosexuals are underestimating our feathered pals.
Let's review the past. Birds are among us from our childhood, and dare I say birds were somewhere near all peoples throughout their history. The image of these beautiful non-human creatures has been imprinted for centuries on the heraldry of many countries from Prussia to Mexico, and in legends and myths from the Thunderbird in the mythology of the indigenous people of North America to the Raven in Celtic mythology. But birds have been important in more than just mythology. Domesticated chickens and ducks have been feeding humans for 5 millennia. Carrier pigeons were friends who helped humans communicate. Birds were also next to humans in wartime, some birds were used for reconnaissance and cargo transfer. For a very long time, birds have helped humans and gotten attached to us. They were always our friends and sometimes even more than that. Nikola Tesla was famously very close with a white dove to the extent that he told his friends he was in love with them. But now let's go back to the present.
All birds are very sensible, intelligent, and self-sufficient. They love to improve their skills. Most bird will be sincerely pleased and glad if you give them intellectual games to solve. Many birds are really curious and will be happy to do something interesting with you. For example, they might love to walk around your yard and explore everything you show them. Just give them a little autonomy and your friend will immediately blossom before your eyes and become even smarter and happier! And, of course, with this curious eighth wonder of the world, you and this very wonder will never be bored, just give them enough resources to develop their intellect.
What? Do you prefer emotions to intelligence? I respect your preferences. And back to the topic, the birds will also become perfect friends for you in this case! The way I see it, birds are in no way inferior to dogs in social and empathy terms (and in any other). They appreciate kind conversation and a good long bout of communicating with their loved human. Birds are very different. Not because of species but because of temperment. Just as any other alive creature, every bird has their own individual personality. You will never meet two identical birds, just as you will never meet two identical humans or two identical dogs, and in order to understand this specific bird, their feelings and needs, you will need effort, time, and patience for your friend, as well as respect and willingness. But the birds are grateful. If you will respect them, they will fully open up to you, love you no matter what, if you love them and give them a lot of good time. And they perfectly show their emotions and their feelings as well as understand yours. Just love them and the bird will love you and show you a lot of their emotions, and on a difficult day for you they will be supportive and sit on your shoulder or head.
Apart from curiosity and sociality, birds are usually quite active. That means they will be ready to be by your side and play with you even until the night. Birds do not have much patience due to their activity level and, most likely, you will have to clean up the mess that birds make, but there is still something beautiful about this activity of theirs. For me, perhaps the cheerfulness of these creatures helps me not to fall into apathy and keeps me afloat.
Besides, have you ever heard birdsong? I'm willing to bet my house that yes, you have. But have you ever wondered, my dear friends, how much meaning it carries? While most mammals communicate using body language and smells, birds prefer to communicate by making sounds. Due to the huge variety of sounds that a bird can make, they are able to communicate with each other and humans almost only with the help of voice. And I could spend hours talking about how beautiful and sweet every note that a bird makes is, that you can listen to these sounds for hours and just enjoy. The birdsong of every bird is perfect, even birdsong of crow, but that's not what we're talking about right now. With the help of different loudness, frequency, and energy of singing, birds are able to convey a lot; they are able to show almost all their emotions with the help of singing alone. And let's be honest, most humans are already used to verbal forms of communicating with one another. To comprehend a bird friend, we just have to keep our ears open and learn what to listen for.
Okay, let's admit something not exactly desirable, looks also matter. And the birds are very hot! Their body, it's perfectly built, every muscle looks amazing. The feathers of birds are beautiful to the touch, they are so soft and at the same time to some extent embossed, each feather consists of thousands of barbs, and if you've ever touched birds, then you know how amazing this tangle of small, hard feather sticks feels. And the coloring of the feathers? It can be so diverse, it can be acidic and pastel, it can be almost any color, and the combination of the colors of the feathers is amazing, this is the height of the art of nature. What about beaks? With proper care, an avian will have an amazing beak, as smooth as glass and at the same time as hard as a thin rock, and believe me, you won't be able to take your fingers off a good beak. You still don't believe that birds are hot? Then, have you ever looked at their clawed paws, felt the birds roam over your skin? It's a divine feeling that gives goosebumps, their bare paws are so amazing.
There's so much to appreciate about birds!
